Youth Planners

Tampa, FL

CCC co-developed an action-based curriculum to teach K–12 students about transportation planning, civic engagement, and urban design. Students participated in real-world projects, including tactical urbanism and beautification, culminating in tangible improvements in their neighborhoods.

Recognizing the importance of involving youth in Urban Planning processes, this initiative focuses on programs, curriculums, and experiences that expose youth to the principals of Urban Planning and provides them with real world experiences to directly apply those principals into their visions for their communities.

This is an ongoing effort from Naya and Fatima beginning in 2019 with the co-creation of the FLiP Jr program alongside the Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association and Plan Hillsborough (Planning Commission & The Transportation Planning Organization). Dedicated to the continued expansion of this original curriculum, they have been able to sustain a robust and varied program that incorporates partners from various sectors.

This project won several awards at the state and national levels including the APA Florida Award of Excellence and the APA Suncoast Award for Best Public Outreach and Engagement, the National Preservation Alliance Commission’s Award of Excellence for Engagement, and the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council Future of the Region Award.
